Paver EZ Installation Guide
Edging:
Measure the area where edge restraints are needed in lineal feet. Pavers that will sit next to other pavements or building generally do not require restraints.
Edging typically comes in 8 to 10 foot lengths and made with plastic, steel or aluminum. Place the edging around the perimeter and secure with 12 inch spikes every 12 to 18 inches.
Edging may be cut to allow for more flexibility when an area has an irregular shape.
Sand:
Calculate the area of sand needed for your project by dividing the square foot area (do not add the 6 to 12 inch area that was excavated out side of the boundaries to allow for edging installation), by 200 and then multiply by 1.25.
Example: 600/200=3 x 1.25 = 3.75 tons
Screed sand to a uniform depth of 1 inch. The easiest way to accomplish this is to lay 1 inch PVC pipe approximately every 5 to 10 feet and pour sand in between the pipes. Using a screed board, sand pull or a 2 X 4 will do (make sure the wood is not warped and is straight). Screed the sand in small sections. When finished pull out the PVC pipes and fill the void with just enough sand, then level the area with a trowel or sand pull.
Do not walk on sand and only screed enough sand that will be covered with pavers in the same day so the sand will not get disrupted.
